Historic Name HOTEL LOVE
Description of Significance CONSTRUCTED IN 1896 AND ENLARGED IN 1909, THE HOTEL LOVE SERVED THE TRAVELING PUBLIC AND THE COMMUNITY FOR MANY YEARS AND IS THE ONLY TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY HOTEL BUILDING STILL EXTANT IN PURCELL. THE HOTEL IS A THREE-STORY, RED BRICK BUILDING. ORIGINALLY A SIMPLE RECTANGLE, THE 1909 ADDITION GIVES THE FACADE AN ELL-SHAPE. THE ORIGINAL PORTION OF THE BUILDING HAS A SHED ROOFED, SECOND STORY WOODEN BALCONY. THE MACHICOLATED AND CORBELLED BRICK ALONG THE PARAPET AND THE SEGMENTAL ARCHED WINDOWS LEND AN ITALIANATE INFLUENCE TO THE BUILDING. LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER 12/7/1995.
